Cathay Couriers

Cathay Couriers operates out of the basement at Satya Niketan 42. We are situated right opposite Venkateshwara College, so the whole street is usually buzzing with students and people hanging out at the cafes. Being in the basement has its pros and cons. It stays quite cool when the sun is beating down outside, but it can get a bit damp when the monsoon season hits. We have a lot of shelves lining the walls to keep the courier packages off the floor. It’s not a very big space, so we have to be careful about how we stack things. You’ll usually see a pile of boxes near the door ready for the morning pickup. We’ve been at this Satya Niketan spot for a long time. A lot of the regular customers are just people from the neighborhood or students sending things home. We don’t do any big advertising. People just know where the basement is. Sometimes the lights flicker a bit, but we just ignore it and keep working. We handle everything from small letters to bigger parcels. It’s mostly just about weighing things and putting on the right labels. We don't have any fancy uniforms or a front desk. It’s just us and the packages. Every day is pretty much the same, but we like the familiarity of the routine. We stay open until the college crowds start to thin out in the evening and the street gets a bit quieter.
