Kalimpong Coffees

We are based out of Lodge-Hilamshre, right on the Main Road in Darjeeling. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze sometimes, being in a lodge building, but we make it work for us. The air up here is crisp, and you can see the mist rolling over the hills most mornings when we open up. We focus on the coffee grown in these parts. People always think of tea when they hear Darjeeling, but we’ve been working with coffee for a good while. Our setup is pretty simple. We have a few rooms where we sort the beans and keep the roaster going. The smell of the beans usually drifts out onto the Main Road, which helps people find where we are. It’s a family-run thing, really. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a big storefront with lights. Usually, you’ll find one of us sitting by the window checking the stock or talking to a local grower about the harvest. It gets quite cold in the winters, so we spend a lot of time huddled around the heater in the back. We aren't looking to become some huge company with offices everywhere. We just like the pace of life here. The tourists come and go, but we’re here year-round, just doing our thing with the beans. It’s a lot of manual sorting and making sure nothing gets damp in the mountain air. Just honest work in a beautiful place.
