Ganesh Bhandar

Ganesh Bhandar is right in the heart of Khalpada village. We are located near Gandhi Maidan, and it is a pretty well-known spot for anyone living around the Siliguri area in the Darjeeling district. Our shop is where people come to get their basic supplies. We have bags of grain stacked up against the walls and the smell of spices is always hanging in the air. The post office is nearby, so we see a lot of people passing by on their way to do their errands. We don't have any bright neon lights or anything like that, just a simple storefront that has been part of the village for quite some time. The floor is made of old concrete and it has some cracks in it, but it holds up fine. When the market day comes around, it gets very crowded and we are on our feet all day long. We know most of the families around here, and we have seen their kids grow up over the years. We keep a ledger to track what we sell, and sometimes the ink smears when it is humid outside. It is just a humble place where we try to keep things honest and the prices fair for our neighbors. We open early when the sun is just coming up and stay until the evening shadows get long across the Maidan.
