Sri Krishna Wooden Arts

Our shop, Sri Krishna Wooden Arts, is located at No. 3/1 Kamarajer Street just off Gandhiji Road. We are in the Kurichi Sundarapuram area and it is a nice place to be. The smell of fresh sawdust is something you notice as soon as you step inside our door. We have various pieces of wood stacked up against the walls waiting to be worked on. Most of our time is spent carving or sanding down different items. It is a slow process and you can't really rush it if you want it done right. We have a few old machines that have been with us for a long time. The floor is almost always covered in a thin layer of wood shavings and dust. We try to sweep up but it just piles back up again by noon. People from around Gandhiji Road often stop by to see what we are making. It is a very hands-on environment here. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights, just the workshop where everything happens. Sometimes the wood doesn't behave like we want it to, so we have to adjust. It is just part of the craft. Being at No. 3/1 means we are part of the local fabric of Sundarapuram. We just keep our heads down and keep working with the wood. It is a quiet life for the most part.
