Rich Masala

We are based at Plot No.16 in Sri Ram Nagar, which is over in the Podanur area. This isn't a big shop where you walk in and browse; it’s more of a small place where we prepare and mix our spices. We have a couple of grinders that run for most of the morning. The air inside is always thick with the smell of coriander, cumin, and whatever else we are working on that day. It makes you sneeze if you aren't used to it. We started this because we had some space and knew how to make decent masala blends. It’s just a few of us working here. We don't have a fancy brand or a big marketing budget. We just pack the spices into plain bags and sell them to the local grocery stores around Podanur. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend the afternoon fixing them with grease and a wrench. It’s not a clean job, but it’s ours. We don't have a website or anything like that. Word of mouth usually brings in the customers. The neighborhood is mostly quiet, which is nice for working. We just focus on getting the ratios right so the masala tastes like it should. It’s a simple operation, and we like it that way. We just keep our heads down and get the work done.
