Rayappas Masala

If you head down Serayampalayam Road in Neelambur, you’ll find us at 816/7. We’ve been here for a while now, mostly focusing on our spice mixes. It’s a dusty job, to be honest. Every morning we start by unloading the sacks of raw spices that come in on the trucks. We don't have a big corporate team or anyone in suits. It is just us in our work clothes, making sure the grinders are set right. Sometimes the noise of the machines makes it hard to hear anything else, so we use a lot of hand signals. We focus on the basics, like making sure the turmeric is pure and the pepper is spicy enough. Our space isn't huge, so we have to be careful about how we stack the finished boxes. Often, we’re still here late into the evening during the festival seasons when everyone wants their masala at the same time. We don't have a website that looks like a million bucks because we’d rather spend that time checking how the spices look. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes with all the bags lying around, but we know where everything is. We just try to do right by the people who buy our stuff. It’s just a local business trying to make a living and keep the traditions of good spices alive in our own way. There isn't much more to it than that, really.
