New Hair Style

New Hair Style has been running out of this shop at 642 on 1st Street in Gandhipuram for quite some time. We are right opposite the GP building, which most people in Coimbatore know pretty well. The street out front is always full of activity since Gandhipuram is such a central hub for the city. You see a lot of buses and people moving around at all hours. Our shop is simple and doesn't have any of those modern bells and whistles. We have the basic barber chairs and mirrors that have seen a lot of years. It’s a place where men come to get a quick haircut or a shave while they chat about whatever is happening in the news. The fans stay on all day because the Coimbatore heat can be quite something, especially in the afternoons. We keep the doors open to let some air in, even if it brings in a bit of dust from the road. Most of our tools are the ones we’ve used forever, just kept sharp and clean. It’s a small operation, usually just one or two of us here at a time. We don't have a waiting room or anything, just a few stools for people to sit on while they wait their turn. It’s a regular part of the street life here on 1st Street. We just keep our heads down and do the work day after day until it's time to close up the shutters.
