Mathaji Ice Cream

The shop is at 28 D in Annai Indira Nagar, over in the Chokkampudur area. We are quite close to the SBOA School, so we see a lot of students and parents when the bell rings in the afternoon. Mathaji Ice Cream is just a small place in Selvapuram North where we keep the freezers going all day long. It gets pretty hot around here, especially in the summer months, so having the cold stuff ready is important. We have different flavors in the tubs and we just scoop them out as people ask. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when the kids come by, but we manage. The street can be a bit dusty sometimes. We spend a lot of time just cleaning the glass and making sure the floor isn't sticky from spills. It isn't a huge parlor with lots of chairs, but people like to stand around and eat their cones. We’ve been here for a bit and the neighbors know us well enough. We just focus on keeping the ice cream cold and the lights on. Being near the school means we have a lot of noise and energy around, which keeps things interesting for us. It’s a simple life at the shop. We don’t do much advertising, people just walk in because they see the sign or they want something cold to eat. We try to keep things moving and make sure everyone gets their treats.
