Lecturer

I’m staying over at the Indira Gandhi Working Womens Hostel in Chromepet. It’s located on Ayyasamy Street in Nehru Nagar, which is a busy part of Chennai. Being a lecturer means I spend most of my time at the college, but this hostel is where I rest my head at the end of the day. It’s unit number eight. Life here is pretty straightforward and functional. I share the space with other working women who are all trying to make a living in the city. The commute to work can be a bit of a hassle with the Chennai traffic and the heat, but you get used to it after a month or two. My room is filled with books and old exam papers I need to grade before the next week starts. It’s not a huge place, but it serves its purpose for someone in my profession. I’ve been in this neighborhood for a bit now. You can hear the sounds of the street all day long. Sometimes it gets noisy, but that’s just part of living in this busy area. I spend my evenings prepping for the next day's classes. There’s always another lesson to plan or a set of notes to rewrite. The hostel staff is alright, and we mostly keep to ourselves. It’s a practical arrangement for me right now. I don’t need much, just a desk and a bit of quiet when I can actually get it. Chromepet has everything I need within walking distance, which helps a lot. It’s just a simple life of teaching.
