Kones & Kores

Down at 64, Vivekananda Street, we’ve set up our little shop. Kones & Kores isn’t a huge operation, but we stay busy enough to keep everyone employed. Nanjegoundan Pudur is a quiet enough spot, and being near the Gn Mill Post makes it easy for us to handle mail and deliveries. We spend most of our time just focusing on the details of what we’re making. It’s a lot of standing on your feet and working with your hands, which can be tiring but it feels good. We don’t really do the whole professional marketing thing. If you call us, you’ll probably just talk to whoever is closest to the phone. We don’t have a script; we just tell you what we can do and what we can’t do. Sometimes the weather makes the workshop a bit too cold or too hot, but we just put on a sweater or turn on the fans and keep going. It’s a very grounded way of working. We’ve known some of our neighbors for years and we often share a cup of tea in the afternoons. There’s no pressure to be the best in the world, just the pressure to do a good job for the people who trust us. Vivekananda Street is where we feel at home. It’s not a shiny corporate park, but it’s our space and we’re happy with it. We just keep plugging away at our tasks day by day.
