Ultra Sharp Needle Industries is tucked away on Sathy Road, right by the railway bridge in Ganapathy. If you’ve ever driven that way, you know the spot because the bridge is a bit of a landmark. The noise of the trains passing overhead is something we just got used to over the years. We make needles here. It is a very precise kind of work, and you have to have a steady hand for it. The machines we use are old but they still run okay if you look after them right. We spend a lot of time checking the points to make sure they are actually sharp. It’s funny because when you tell people you make needles, they don’t really know what to say. It’s just a small factory setup. We have a few benches and lots of metal scraps lying around. The lighting in the back isn't the best, so we use desk lamps to see the small parts. Ganapathy is a busy area and getting in and out of the gate can be a bit of a struggle when the traffic builds up on Sathy Road. We don’t have a big sales team or anything like that. People usually just find us through word of mouth or because they’ve seen the sign near the bridge. We just keep our heads down and keep the production going. It’s a steady living and it keeps us occupied from morning until evening.
