We are situated right at the corner of Murugapa Street and Kariappa Street. It’s a good spot in Purasawalkam because people passing by can see us easily. The shop is at number 17. It’s not a very big room, so things can get a bit tight when there are three or four people waiting. We have the usual salon chairs and a big mirror that covers most of one wall. You can see the street traffic reflected in it all day long. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast, so we keep the broom handy. We don't do anything fancy, just the regular cuts and shaves that most guys want. Sometimes we talk about the local news or what's happening at the market nearby. It’s a simple setup with our scissors, clips, and combs arranged on the little shelf. The door stays open most of the time to let a breeze in, even if it brings in the street noise. We’ve been at this corner for some time, and we know many of the faces that walk past. It’s a quiet kind of work, mostly. We just focus on the hair and making sure the sideburns are even. No one is in a huge rush here, unless they’re heading to work. We just keep things moving at our own pace. The lights stay on until the last customer leaves in the evening. It’s just how we run things here every day of the week.
