Being based in Vellore, Smart Overseas Education Career Consultancy is right in the middle of a lot of student activity. We have a small office where we sit down with people to look over their options for studying abroad. It isn't a huge place, just a room with some chairs and a lot of folders stacked on the desks. We spend a lot of time reading through different requirements and helping people figure out their paperwork. Vellore is a busy spot, and we get all sorts of people walking in, from nervous students to their worried parents. Sometimes we have to stay late because of the time differences when calling people in other countries. The office gets quite warm in the summer, but we have a small air conditioner that hums in the corner. It’s mostly just a few of us here. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. If the phone rings, whoever is closest just picks it up. We’ve learned a lot about the process over the years, mostly by just doing it and figuring things out as we go. It’s a lot of forms and deadlines, which can be stressful, but we just take it one step at a time. The shelves are filled with old catalogs and guides that we refer to constantly. It’s a plain, functional office where the focus is on the conversation and the plans people are making for their future.
