Our workshop is at No C-40 inside the Sidco Industrial Estate in Ambattur. It’s a busy place with a lot of other factories and noise around us. We focus on making parts for hydropower systems. It is technical work, but we talk about it in plain terms. We have some heavy machinery on the floor and enough space to move parts around. The morning starts with a quick talk about what needs to be finished by the end of the shift. We aren’t interested in being corporate; we just want to make sure the parts we produce actually work when they get installed at the sites. The floor is usually covered in some oil or metal shavings, which is normal for a place like this. We’ve been in the Sidco estate for quite a while now and we know the neighbors well. Ambattur is a good place for this kind of work because everything we need is close by. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anyone in a suit waiting to greet you. Usually, you’ll just find someone in overalls near the machines or checking the measurements. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it takes focus to get the hydropower specs right. We just keep our heads down and do the work. The fans are always running to keep the air moving. It’s a solid job and we’re glad to be part of the industrial community here.
