Sathish Brick

Down here on Tindivanam Road in Vallam, we have been running Sathish Brick for quite a while. Our place is at 32F, and it is pretty much exactly what you would expect from a local brick kiln. We don't have any big offices or fancy computers. It is mostly just the kilns, a lot of clay, and a crew that knows how to work hard. The sun gets really intense in the yard, but we need that heat to dry the bricks out before they go into the fire. You will see a lot of people from around the village coming by in their tractors. They usually need a few thousand bricks for a new room or maybe a wall around their property. We don't talk much about business strategies; we just get the work done. Dealing with mud and water all day is a dirty job, but there is something good about seeing the finished stacks at the end of the week. We are not trying to be some massive supplier for the whole country. We just want to make sure the people who come to our gate get their bricks without any trouble. Sometimes we run out of stock when the rain lasts for weeks on end, and we just have to tell folks to come back later. That is just how it goes when you work with the earth. We are here from sunrise to sunset, just keeping the kiln going and the stacks growing.
