Our place, S. Selladurai Nadar Hotel & Catering World, is located at 264 Mint Street in the Park Town area. If you’ve ever been to Mint Street, you know it’s one of the busiest, most crowded parts of the city. There’s always someone shouting, a horn honking, or people rushing past. We’ve been right here in the middle of it for a long time. Our shop is filled with all sorts of things for kitchens and catering, and it can feel a bit overwhelming when you first walk in because we have stuff stacked almost to the ceiling. It’s an old building, and it gets pretty hot during the day, especially with all the people coming in and out. We don’t really do things the modern way; we still keep our records mostly by hand and know our stock by heart. The staff here has been around for years, and we just work through the heat and the noise every day. We get all kinds of customers, from big hotel owners to people just looking for a single pot for their home. It doesn't matter much to us who it is, we just try to find what they need in the piles of stock. It’s a bit chaotic, but it’s our version of normal. We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if it was quiet and polished. Mint Street is where we belong.
