Our shop is over on Whannels Road in Egmore. We are at number 18, which is very close to the Albert Theatre. If there is a big movie playing, the whole street gets very crowded and noisy. We have been here in Chennai for quite a while now. It is a simple place with a few chairs and mirrors. We don't spend money on fancy decorations or big lights because that is not what our customers are looking for. They just want a good haircut without any fuss. Usually, you can hear the bikes and autos outside while we work. It is a very local vibe here. Sometimes the regulars stop by just to chat for a minute even if they don't need a trim. We keep things straightforward. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast on busy Saturdays, but we sweep it up as we go. Egmore is a central part of the city so we see people from all over. Some are catching a train nearby and others live just around the corner. We open up in the morning and stay until the evening rush is over. It is honest work and we take it one day at a time. No one here is a professional writer, we are just barbers and stylists making a living near the theater. The sign outside is plain and the door is always open to let a bit of a breeze in when it isn't too dusty. We are just here doing our job.
