Mohankrishna Brick Industries sits right at No 80-D on the G.S.T. Road in Guduvanchery. Being on such a major road means there is never a quiet moment with all the cars and big lorries rushing past our gate. It’s a fast-paced environment because of the location, but inside the yard, we just focus on making our bricks. We have been here for a long time, watching Guduvanchery grow up around us. The yard is quite large, and we have sections for the raw materials and the finished products. The heat from the sun on the blacktop of G.S.T. Road makes it feel even hotter in our yard, so we make sure to have plenty of water for everyone. We have a small office near the entrance where we keep our logs and records. It’s not very organized, with papers stacked everywhere, but we know where everything is. You can see the smoke and the dust when we are in the middle of a big production run. Loading the trucks is a big job, and we usually have a few guys working together to get it done quickly so the lorries can get back on the road. It is a grit-and-grime kind of job, but it’s what we know how to do. Most days are the same, just keeping the machines running and the stacks high. We are just a local industry trying to keep things going.
