Mercury Plastics

You can find us at No.31 on Kannaiah Naidu Street in Kondithope. It’s one of those narrow streets where you have to be careful if two cars are trying to pass each other. Mercury Plastics has been in this building for a long time now. The walls have some cracks and the paint is peeling in a few spots near the ceiling, but it works for what we need. We usually have the radio playing in the background, though it’s mostly static. There’s always a stack of plastic goods near the entrance waiting to be loaded onto a cart. It gets quite warm in here during the summer, so we keep the doors open to catch whatever breeze comes down the alley. Most of our neighbors are also running small shops or workshops, so there is a constant sound of banging or machines humming. We know the guy who sells snacks on the corner and the delivery boys who know the shortcuts. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside on the steps until it comes back on. It’s not a corporate office with air conditioning and glass walls. It is just a workspace where we get our hands dirty and make sure the orders are ready on time. We don’t think much about the decor as long as the work gets done and the machines are running properly for the day's tasks. It is just part of living and working in this old part of the city.
