Working out of Sowcarpet is always an experience. Audiyappan Naicker Street is narrow, and if you've been here, you know how crowded it gets with carts and people. Our place at 124/4 isn't huge, but we pack a lot into it. We deal in all kinds of plastic items, mostly wholesale but we help out whoever walks in. The morning starts early here because the deliveries have to come in before the streets get too jammed up. You can hear the noise of the market from the moment you step inside. We’ve got bags and containers squeezed into every corner. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes. My father started this, and we’ve just kept it going. We don’t have fancy displays or air conditioning. It’s just us, some fans, and a lot of plastic goods. If you’re looking for something specific, you might have to wait a minute while we dig it out from the back. Dealing with the traffic and the heat is part of the job. Most of our customers are other shopkeepers or regulars who’ve been buying from us for a decade. We don’t spend much time on paperwork or marketing. We just focus on getting the orders right and making sure the stock is full. It’s a busy life here in the heart of the city, but we like the energy of Sowcarpet. We just keep our heads down and do the work daily.
