Kala Arts

Kala Arts is over in Vyasarpadi, specifically at No 13 on Krishnaswamy Koil Street. We are very close to the market, so there is always a lot of noise and people moving about nearby. Our place is mostly about traditional art and getting things ready for special occasions. We handle a lot of mehendi work and bridal decorations for people in the neighborhood. The street can get quite muddy when it rains, but customers still find their way to us. Inside, we have a lot of samples of our designs drawn on paper or kept in old photo albums for people to look through. We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor or on low stools while working on intricate patterns. It takes a steady hand and a lot of patience. Sometimes a bride will come in with her whole family, and the shop feels very full and loud with everyone talking at once. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day long. In the evenings, the light from the street market spills in, and it feels very much like a part of the local life here. We've been at this spot for a while now, and most of the shopkeepers on Krishnaswamy Koil Street are our friends. It is a simple life, just doing the art we know how to do for the people who live around here.
