Janaki Hair Style

Janaki Hair Style is tucked away on Jothi Ramanlingam Street in Vyasarpadi. We are right behind Brindha Theatre, so you can usually hear the movies playing if the wind is right. Chennai can be very humid, especially in this part of town, so we keep the shop open to let whatever breeze there is come through. I have been cutting hair here for quite a while. It is a small shop with 46A on the door. Nothing much has changed since we opened. We have the same old chairs and the big mirrors that show every grey hair. The guys from the neighborhood come in for their regular trims or a shave before going to work. On weekends, it gets quite packed because of the young boys wanting styles like the actors in the theater next door. I try to keep up with what they want, but I prefer the classic cuts. The street is always busy with bikes and kids playing. I know most families on this block. We don't bother with fancy posters or anything like that. Just a simple shop for regular people. It is hard work being on your feet all day, but it pays the bills. Sometimes the tea stall guy brings us snacks and we talk about the news. It is just a normal Vyasarpadi life for us here. We don't need much more than that to stay happy and busy.
