Essensuals Hair Dressing By Toni & Guy is on the first floor over at Arcot Road. We are right opposite Olympic Cards in Valasaravakkam. It is easy to find if you are looking for that building. Inside, there are big mirrors and chairs where people sit while we work on their hair. It smells like hairspray and different shampoos most of the time. We have a few people working here who handle the cutting and the washing. It gets really packed on Saturdays and Sundays because everyone wants to get cleaned up for the week. We keep the floor swept as much as we can but hair gets everywhere when it is busy. The Arcot Road traffic is always loud outside so you hear the horns even when you are getting a trim. We do not have a big corporate office or anything, it is just this shop here in Valasaravakkam. We use those sharp scissors and blow dryers all day long. Sometimes people come in knowing exactly what they want and other times they just want a simple cut so they can get on with their day. We keep some magazines around for when there is a wait. It is a regular place where we try to do a decent job with the combs and the clippers. Most of our regulars are from the houses around this part of Chennai. We just keep the lights on and wait for the next person to walk in.
