Desiner

The shop is over in Ambattur, on 17th street in Indira Nagar Menambedu. I know the name on the sign is spelled Desiner, which maybe looks a bit odd to some people who see it for the first time, but it's what we went with. It’s a small place at 23/1, right in the middle of a busy street. Usually, there are scooters parked all over the front making it hard to find the door. Inside, it's mostly just piles of fabrics and some old sewing machines that have seen better days. We spend most of the day just working on whatever orders come through the door. It gets quite hot in the summers here in Ch-53, but we have a couple of fans that help a bit. We don't have a big staff, just me and my cousin mostly. People from the neighborhood come by because they know where we are. It’s not like those big polished stores you see in the mall. We keep things simple and practical. If a button is missing or a seam is ripped on a shirt, we fix it while you wait. If someone wants a whole new outfit, we just take the measurements on a piece of scrap paper. Sometimes we run out of a specific thread and have to wait for the delivery guy to show up. It’s just how it goes here. We’ve been at this address for a few years now. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but the work keeps us too busy to worry about that.
