Cuts Spot

You can find us at No 19, Saint Xavier Street in the Broadway area of Chennai. We are specifically in Seven Wells, which is a very crowded and old part of the city. Being at 600108 means we are right in the middle of all the action. The shop is called Cuts Spot, and that’s exactly what it is—a spot to get your hair cut. It’s a small room with a high ceiling and a couple of large fans to fight the Chennai humidity. We have the old-style barber chairs that are heavy and made of iron and leather. They’ve been here since the shop opened. We don't do anything fancy like chemical treatments or expensive spa stuff. It’s mostly just cuts, trims, and shaves for the men who work in the local markets. The street outside is always noisy with bikes and people shouting, but we are used to it. We keep a small radio on the shelf that plays Tamil film songs most of the day. The mirror has a crack in the bottom corner that we’ve taped up, but it doesn't get in the way of the work. We don't take appointments; you just show up and wait your turn on the wooden bench. It’s an honest way to make a living and pay the bills. We know the tea seller nearby and he brings us glass tumblers of hot tea throughout the day. It’s just a simple, local life for us.
