If you are ever near the Saibaba Temple in Mylapore, you might have seen our shop. It’s No 1 at 51 B Alamelumangapuram. It’s a small space, but we manage to fit everything we need inside. Mylapore has this specific feel to it, especially with the temple crowds on Thursdays. We can hear the bells and see the flower sellers from our doorway. Most of the time, the shop is full of samples and bits of decor we’ve used for various events around the city. We don’t really have a polished reception area or anything like that. Usually, you’ll find one of us sitting at the desk with a half-empty cup of coffee, trying to figure out a logistics map. We started Chennai Events because we liked being part of the local celebrations. It’s hard work, mostly involving long hours on our feet and a lot of phone calls to vendors who are sometimes late. We try to keep things organized, but in this business, something always changes at the last minute. We’ve learned to just go with it. People in the neighborhood stop by just to chat sometimes, which is nice. It’s a bit chaotic inside, with rolls of ribbon and stacks of crates, but we know where everything is. We also keep some extra chairs in the back for when the neighbors want to sit and talk for a while. It’s just a local shop doing its thing near the temple.
