Talk about the heat in Chennai. Vyasarpadi gets really hot in the afternoon. Having the A/C makes a huge difference for the guys coming in from Ambedkar College nearby. It's not a fancy place with gold mirrors, just a regular spot in Moorthingar Nagar. We open up early, sweep the floor, and get the chairs ready. Sometimes it's just one person, other times five people are waiting. We do the usual hair cuts and shaves. I’ve been around here for a while and most people know the shop. The students are always in a rush but we try to get them sorted before their classes. It’s loud outside with the traffic but inside it’s a bit quieter. We don’t have a big staff, just enough to handle the daily crowd. The focus is just on getting the job done so people can go about their day. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait, that's just how it is here. I keep the scissors sharp and the towels clean. It's a simple life running a shop in this part of town. You see the same faces every month. I don't really have a big story to tell, just a man's saloon doing its thing near the college. If you walk past No. 62, you’ll see us there.
