Vintage Bricks

The shop at Vintage Bricks is easy to find if you know the Medavakkam Main Road area. We sit right near the Indian Oil petrol bunk in Adambakkam. The address is a bit confusing because it has a New No. 165 and an Old No. 134, but most people just look for the bunk. It gets pretty dusty around here with all the bricks and materials coming in and out. Most days start early before the sun gets too hot. We spend a lot of time talking to builders and people trying to fix up their old houses. Bricks might seem simple, but there is a lot to know about them. The trucks come in at odd hours sometimes and we have to get everything unloaded and stacked. It’s hard work, and my clothes usually end up covered in red dust by lunch. We’ve been at this spot for a good while. The neighborhood has changed quite a bit since we first started out here. More shops have opened up, and the traffic on the main road just keeps getting heavier. Sometimes the noise from the petrol pump and the cars is a lot, but you get used to it. We just keep doing what we do, making sure the piles of bricks are ready for whoever needs them next. There isn’t much fancy about it, just a lot of lifting and moving things from one place to another. We stay busy enough.
