Ab Plastics

Ab Plastics is situated at 17, Duraisamy Street in Arumbakkam. This street is usually quite narrow and can get blocked if a big delivery truck comes through. We’ve been in this part of Chennai for a long time. The shop is tucked away between a small tea stall and a house. It’s a very local vibe here. People walking to the market often stop in to see what’s new. We sell basic plastic goods, nothing too complicated. The shelves are packed and sometimes things fall off if you’re not careful. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us who take turns being at the counter. Arumbakkam is a nice place to have a business because everyone knows everyone. We talk to the neighbors every morning while opening up. The floor is just plain cement and we have an old wooden desk for the cash box. We don’t use computers much, mostly just handwritten bills and a calculator. It works fine for us. Sometimes the monsoon rains flood the street a bit, but we just put up some boards and keep going. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s our business and we’ve been doing it this way for as long as I can remember. We keep the doors open late because that's when most people are coming home from work. It's a busy little spot.
