A Y Jamnagarwala Engg.Co is right in the middle of the chaos that is Broadway in George Town. Our address is No. 142/159 on Broadway Road. If you’ve ever been to this part of Chennai, you know how crowded it is. There’s barely enough room for the rickshaws and carts to pass by. We’ve been operating out of this spot for quite some time. It’s an old building, the kind with high ceilings and thick walls. We deal with engineering goods and hardware mostly. The shop is packed from floor to ceiling with boxes and metal pieces. Sometimes it takes us a minute to find exactly what a customer is looking for, but we usually have it buried somewhere. We don't have a fancy showroom. It’s more of a warehouse and sales counter all in one. The noise from the street is constant—horns, people shouting, and the general buzz of George Town. We’re used to it. We drink a lot of tea and talk to the regulars who stop in. We aren't a corporate chain; we’re a local shop where we know many of our customers by name. We don't bother with much advertising. Word gets around that we have the stock, and people come. It’s a busy life, but we like being in the heart of the city. We just open up and see who comes in.
