Our place is right on Velachery Main Road in Selaiyur, specifically at number 76 in Mahalakshmi Nagar. Since we’re on the main road, the traffic is always a bit loud and there’s a lot of dust from the street. We specialize in Kota stone, which is a sturdy material that a lot of people around Chennai like for their outdoor areas or hallways. The stones are heavy and come in these big stacks that we have to sort through. It’s a lot of manual labor, moving one piece at a time to check the thickness and the color. We don't have a polished showroom with air conditioning; it’s more of a functional yard where we keep the stock. Sometimes the monsoon rains make everything a bit of a mess, but we just throw some tarps over the piles and keep going. The guys working here have been around for a long time and they can tell you the weight of a stone just by lifting it an inch. We spend our days talking to drivers and making sure the loading is done safely so nothing breaks on the way to the customer. It’s a basic business model and we don’t feel the need to dress it up with fancy words. We just provide the stone that’s requested and make sure the count is right before the truck leaves the gate.
