Mother Hallow Block

Mother Hallow Block is located at 50 Bazaar Street, which is right in the middle of the action here in Salavakkam. Being on Bazaar Street means there is always someone walking past or a cart blocking the way, but it makes it easy for folks to find us when they need materials. We make these blocks right on site, so you can usually see the wet cement being poured if you come by at the right time. The space is a bit cramped because we have to store the finished blocks in neat piles while they harden. We try to keep the dust down by spraying water, but it is a losing battle most of the time. My shoes are permanently gray from all the cement powder. We have a couple of guys who have been with us for years, and they know exactly how the mix should feel just by looking at it. It isn't a high-tech operation, just a reliable one where we show up every day and get the job done. Sometimes the delivery truck can't get down the street because of the market crowds, so we have to wait until later in the evening to move the heavy stuff out. It's just part of being in this neighborhood. We don't do much advertising; people just see our stacks of blocks from the road and stop in when they're building a wall or an extension on their house. It keeps us busy enough.
