Manidvipa Design & Constructions is run out of a small flat in Chrompet. It’s 3/A4 Balaji Flats on Elumalai Street. Radha Nagar is a quiet enough area, which helps when we are trying to focus on drawings. The living room of the flat is where we put the big drafting tables. It gets a bit crowded when everyone is in at the same time. There’s usually a pile of blueprints in the corner that we haven’t filed away yet. We started this because we liked drawing plans and seeing them turn into real buildings. It’s not a big operation with hundreds of people. Just a few of us who know how to get a house built from the ground up. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers in the local market. The stairs up to the flat are a bit narrow, so carrying big rolls of paper up and down is always a bit of a workout. We don't have a fancy website or a sales team. People just come by the flat if they heard about us from a friend. We offer them a glass of water and sit down to look at what they need. It’s a very plain way of doing business, but it works for us in this part of town. The neighbor’s dog usually barks when someone knocks, so we always know when a visitor is here. We just work on one plan at a time.
