Granules N Beans

At Granules N Beans, we work out of number 8 on Indira Gandhi Salai. This is in Rajajipuram, over in Tiruvallur. It’s not a very big place. We mostly deal with coffee and tea stuff. The smell inside is really strong. Some days it’s all you can think about. We have these big metal containers everywhere. We spend hours weighing things out on a small scale. Sometimes the scale acts up and we have to recalibrate it. It’s a bit of a slow process but we don't mind. We have a small window that looks out onto the street. You can see the kids walking to school in the morning. They always make a lot of noise. We have an old radio that stays on a local station. It mostly plays old songs. The walls were painted white once but now they are more of a grey color. It’s just dust from the beans. We try to sweep every evening but it always comes back. We don't have a lot of customers coming inside. It's mostly just us and the delivery drivers. We sit on plastic stools when we take our breaks. The tea we make for ourselves is usually better than what you get outside. We’ve been in Tiruvallur for a long time now. We know the shopkeepers next door. We help each other out when someone needs a hand moving something heavy. It's just a regular job and we get on with it every day. The work is steady and that is all we really need.
