Kashmir Goverment Art Emporium

The Kashmir Goverment Art Emporium is situated at Sco-11 in the Bays Building of Sector 17. Sector 17 is a pretty central place, so we get a lot of different people walking by throughout the day. We’ve been here for quite some time, surrounded by many other shops and busy offices. Inside, the space is full of various crafts and traditional items. It’s not like one of those modern department stores you find in the malls. It has much more of an old-world feel to it. We spend our days mostly arranging the displays and talking to people who come in just to look around. Some people are just curious about the items, while others are looking for something very specific for their homes. The Bays Building is one of those older structures that has a lot of history in its walls. We try to keep the place tidy, but with so many small items, it’s a constant job for us. The lighting isn't always perfect in every corner, but it shows the work for what it really is. We aren't into high-pressure sales at all. If you want to look around, you can just look. It’s a bit of a government-run feel, so things tend to move at their own natural pace. We enjoy being in the middle of the city. There’s always something happening outside in the square. We just open up and wait.
