Atul Departmental Store

I usually start the day pretty early here at Atul Departmental Store. The keys always seem to stick in the front lock when I'm trying to open up in Sector 14. Ellis Bridge is already starting to get noisy by then with all the cars and people heading to work. Inside at number 17, it is just a regular shop with shelves that we try to keep stocked as best as we can. It gets a bit cramped when we get a big delivery of rice or flour bags. Sometimes the aisles feel a little narrow but that is just how the space is. We have a fan in the corner that makes a clicking sound every time it turns, which I have been meaning to look at for months. People from the neighborhood come in for bread or milk or whatever they forgot to buy elsewhere. It is not a big fancy place with bright lights and music. It is just us, counting inventory and making sure the floor stays mostly clean. The dust from the road outside comes in pretty quick so we are always dusting things off. There is a guy who comes in every single morning for the same brand of biscuits. You get to know people’s habits after a while. We don't have any flashy signs or a big website, just the name on the door and us working inside. It’s a busy life but it’s what we do here.
