If you are looking for the Department Of General Surgery at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, you have to head toward Delhi Gate. It’s a busy area and finding a place to park is always a headache. The surgery department is a serious place, but we try to keep things calm for the people coming in. There is a lot of equipment around and the halls are always filled with the sound of carts being pushed. We have been working out of this Delhi Gate location for a long time. The building shows its age in some spots, with heavy doors and old windows. We don't have a PR person writing scripts for us. We just talk to the families and the patients like regular people. Some days are longer than others, and we end up eating our lunch at our desks while finishing up notes. It is a lot of responsibility, but we just take it one person at a time. The waiting room is usually full by eight in the morning. We don't use a lot of big words or try to sound more important than we are. We are just a team of people doing surgery in an old building by the gate. It’s hard work and the coffee isn't very good, but we show up every day anyway. That’s just the way it is here for us.
