We are based near Jubilee Hall on Mall Road. This is where the Institute Of Genomics And Integrative Biology is located. The area around here is actually quite nice compared to the more crowded parts of the city because there are a lot of old trees and open spaces. We spend our days mostly inside the labs or at our desks. It’s the kind of work that requires a lot of focus and staying quiet, so the office usually isn't very loud. We have been here for a long time and the building has that old, institutional feel to it. It’s not a modern glass building, but it works for what we need to do. Mall Road always has students walking by and there is a certain energy to the place that is quite pleasant. We don't really have a reception desk that is fancy or anything. You just come in and find who you are looking for. Sometimes we walk over to the nearby hall for events, but mostly we are just busy with our own research. The equipment takes up a lot of space and we have to be careful around it. Lunch is usually a quick affair, maybe something brought from home or a snack from a nearby stall. It’s a bit of a walk to the main transport links, but the walk under the trees is a good way to clear your head after a long day of looking at data. It is quiet work but very important to us.
