Khalsa Montessori School

Our school is situated right by the Gurudwara Lal Talab. It is a very peaceful area, and you can often hear the sounds from the Gurudwara in the background while the kids are playing. We focus on the Montessori way of doing things, which means the classrooms look a bit different than a regular school. There are lots of wooden toys and tools for the children to use. We have been here for quite some time now, and many of the families in the neighborhood have sent their kids to us. It is a small place, so everyone knows each other’s names. In the mornings, you see the parents dropping off their little ones and having a quick chat at the gate. We don't have a big office or a corporate setup. It is just us teachers and the kids. The building is simple and we try to keep it clean and tidy for the children. Sometimes the weather gets a bit dusty because of the location, but we just sweep it out and keep going. We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor with the students. It is a very hands-on kind of day for everyone involved. Most of us have lived in this area our whole lives, so the school feels like an extension of our own homes. We just go about our business every day, looking after the children and helping them learn how to do things for themselves. It is a quiet, steady life here in this corner of the town.
