Our office is located right at D-83 in the Wool and Grain Mandi in Bikaner. If you know the area, we are just across the road from the Ryan Public School on Pugal Road. It’s a very noisy and busy place to be, especially when the trucks are coming in full of grain. We spend a lot of our day in the mandi, watching the bags get weighed and moved around. It gets very dusty and the sun is quite strong, but that is just how life is here in Rajasthan. We aren’t a big corporate team with polished shoes. Most of us are just local people who know about farming and the mandi business. We focus on helping the farmers who bring their produce to us. We handle the sorting and the storage and try to find the right buyers. Sometimes the market is good and sometimes it’s not, and we just have to deal with that. We spend a lot of time talking to the drivers and the laborers. It’s a practical job that involves a lot of shouting over the noise of the tractors. We’ve been at this spot for a while, and the school kids across the street are a constant sight. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the accounts are mostly right at the end of the day. It’s not fancy, but it is real work.
