Nemichandra Kirana Store

We are right in the middle of the Main Market area in New Market, Bhopal. Our shop is number five. If you’ve ever walked through New Market, you know how packed it gets with shoppers and vendors. We’ve been sitting here at this spot for years, watching the market change around us. The shop is filled with the smell of spices and tea leaves. We keep the pulses and rice in large containers, and the shelves are packed tight with everything else a household might need. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when we get more than three people inside at the same time. The wooden ceiling is old and sometimes we have to move things around to make more room for new stock arriving from the distributors. Being in the main market means there’s never a quiet moment. You hear the voices of other sellers and the sound of rickshaws all day long. We spend a lot of time just talking to customers who have been coming to us since they were kids. We don't use any fancy computers for our accounts, just a thick ledger and a blue pen. It’s how we’ve always done it. The shop feels like home because we spend more time here than anywhere else. It’s a lot of work to keep things sorted, but we enjoy the bustle of the New Market. It’s just a honest day's work for us and we plan to stay here.
