Mama Kirana

Mama Kirana is a small shop at Shop No2, near the 11 No Stop in Arera Hills, Bhopal. We are quite close to Shahpura, so people from both sides end up stopping here. It’s just a basic kirana store with the usual sacks of rice and lentils piled up. We have been in this spot for a good number of years now. Arera Hills is a nice area, but our shop is just a practical place for daily groceries. We don't have any big fancy equipment, just a weighing scale and some old shelves that we’ve used forever. My day starts with checking what we sold yesterday and what needs to be ordered again. People come by for small things like tea leaves, sugar, or maybe some matches. It’s a quiet kind of business most of the time, though we get a rush when people are heading home from work. I try to keep everything organized, but with so many small packets of spices and snacks, it can get a bit cluttered. That’s just how a real kirana shop looks, I guess. We don’t do any big advertising or anything. We just stay here and wait for the regulars to show up. It’s a simple way to earn a living in Bhopal. We know the kids who come for chocolate and the older people who want their specific brand of cooking oil. It’s just a normal neighborhood shop.
