King General Store

You can find us in Hans Bhawan along the Kotwali Road in Bhopal. This part of the city is always moving and it can get pretty loud with all the traffic and people shouting. The shop isn't very large but we managed to fit a lot of wooden shelves against the walls. We spend our mornings cleaning up the glass jars and organizing the packets of biscuits and snacks. There is a specific smell of spices and cardboard that stays in the air here all the time. It’s an old building, so sometimes the walls feel a bit damp during the monsoon, but we just deal with it. We sit on a small wooden bench near the entrance and watch the buses go by. It’s not a fancy setup at all. We have some old ceiling fans that squeak when they turn, and the floor tiles are worn down from people coming in and out over the years. Most of our day is spent writing down what we need to order next or talking to the delivery guys who struggle to find parking on this busy road. It’s a lot of work keeping track of everything, especially when it gets busy in the evenings. We don't have a computer or anything, just a big notebook where we keep our accounts. It’s just a regular life in a regular shop in the middle of the city.
