Kailash Kirana And General Store has been here in Subhash Market for a good while now. We open up early every day, usually before the rush at Bus Stop -6 really gets going. Living and working in Shivaji Nagar means you get to know everyone's face, even if you don't always remember their names. It's a lot of work keeping everything stocked. We spend our mornings stacking up bags of flour and making sure the soaps and shampoos are where they should be. Bhopal can get quite hot in the summers, so we try to keep the shop as cool as possible for the folks coming in. It isn't a fancy place. The floor is a bit worn down and the shelves are crowded with all sorts things people need for their kitchens. Sometimes the children from the neighborhood come in for a single piece of candy, and other times it's someone buying a whole month's worth of supplies. We just handle whatever comes through the door. It's mostly about the routine. Checking the dates on the milk, making sure the jars are closed tight, and sweeping out the dust that blows in from the street. Dealing with wholesalers is its own headache, but that's just how business goes. We don't have a big team, just a few of us here helping out and making sure the bills get paid. It’s a simple life at the store.
