Janta Kirana & General Stores

If you go to New Market in Bhopal, you’ll find us at Janta Kirana & General Stores. We are at 8, T T Nagar, right in the middle of all the shopping action. Bhopal 462003 is a place where people love to walk around, so we get a lot of foot traffic. The shop isn't very large, so we have to be smart about where we put the rice bags and the oil tins. Every morning starts with a cup of tea while we unlock the gates. Then it’s straight to work, lifting boxes and making sure the front counter is clear. We don’t have any fancy uniforms or a polished way of doing things. We just talk to people like they are our neighbors, because most of them are. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit mixed up, and we spend the afternoon straightening out the spice packets or the soap bars. New Market is always changing, with new shops opening up, but we’ve stayed pretty much the same. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, and the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise, but it keeps the air moving. We aren't looking to be the most famous store in Bhopal. We just want to make sure the people in T T Nagar can find what they need without any fuss. It’s a basic way to earn a living, and we’re fine with that.
