Jannat Kirana is located over in Harshwardhan Nagar, Bhopal. It’s a simple spot where we sell basic groceries and household stuff. The shop is usually full of the smell of open spice bags and laundry soap. I’ve been working here for years and the routine is always the same. I open the shutters early in the morning before the sun gets too high. Most of the neighbors stop by to get their milk or eggs. We have rows of jars filled with pulses and different kinds of rice. The floor is made of plain concrete and it’s seen a lot of foot traffic over the years. It’s not the kind of place where you find fancy imported goods, just the things you need to run a kitchen. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the narrow road outside and it gets a bit chaotic for a few minutes. I like talking to the regulars who have lived in this part of Bhopal for decades. We talk about the weather or how the prices of onions keep going up. It’s a small life but it keeps me busy enough. I don't bother with much advertising because everyone around here already knows where we are. We just keep the shelves stocked and try to make sure we don't run out of the popular tea brands. It's just a regular corner shop for the people living nearby.
