Ultratech Cement Works

Our operation is based out in Kovaya village, which is part of the Rajula taluka in Gujarat. Salim Chauhan is the main contact here at the works. It’s a very local atmosphere because we’re right in the middle of the village area. The cement business is the big thing around here, so everyone is used to the activity. We don’t have a big corporate lobby. Instead, it’s a functional space where we manage the local requirements and keep track of what’s coming into the village and what’s going out. It’s often quite hot and the wind blows the dust around, but that’s just life in this part of Gujarat. We spend our time talking to the local laborers and making sure the trucks are parked where they should be. It’s not a complicated life, just a lot of checking lists and answering the phone. Most of the people working here are from Kovaya or nearby, so there’s a lot of chatting about local news between the actual work tasks. We try to keep things moving so there aren't too many delays. The village is quiet at night but during the day it’s all about the cement works. We’ve been here long enough that the place just feels like part of the family. It’s a basic setup, focused entirely on getting the daily cement business handled without making a big deal of it.
