Tulsi Sweets

Tulsi Sweets is right on Tower Road in Botad. We are very close to the Manmohan Shopping Centre, so we get a lot of people stopping in after they finish their other errands. The kitchen in the back is where everything happens. We start early, way before the sun is up, to get the first batches ready. It gets very hot near the big vats of sugar and milk, especially in the afternoons. We don’t have much in the way of decoration. We just have our display cases and some space for people to stand. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped when the school kids come by or when there’s a holiday. The floor gets a bit sticky, and we’re always wiping down the counters. We aren't a big chain or anything like that. It’s just us making things the way we were taught. Sometimes we run out of the popular items before noon, and people get a bit annoyed, but we can only make so much at a time. Botad is a small taluka, so we know most of our customers by face, if not by name. It’s a simple life. We deal with the suppliers for flour and sugar, and we spend the rest of the time over the stove. It’s a lot of manual labor, but we’re used to it. We just keep the trays full and wait for the evening rush when people are heading home.
