Pradeep Bricks

Our place is at 521 Naligoundanur Street in Kavandapadi. It is a quiet enough street most of the time, until the brick kiln is running full tilt. We spend our days making and drying bricks out in the open. It’s a lot of manual labor, bending over and picking up heavy things all day long. My back usually hurts by the time I get home, but that’s the life of a brick maker. We have been at this 521 spot for quite a while, and the neighbors are used to the smoke and the stacks of red bricks everywhere. We don't use any fancy marketing. People just see the bricks on the side of the road and stop their trucks to ask for a price. We have a small shed where we keep the tools and take our lunch breaks when it gets too hot to stay under the sun. It’s just us and the dirt and the water we use to mix the clay. Sometimes the batches don't come out perfect, maybe the color is off or they bake a little unevenly, but they are solid. We sell them for what they are. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so we don't have a big corporate structure or anything. If you come by, you’ll likely see us covered in mud or dust, just trying to finish the day’s work before the sun goes down and we can finally head inside for dinner.
