The office for J K Lakshmi Cement Ltd here is tucked into a spot that’s easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. It’s a practical space without any of the bells and whistles you see in the new office parks. We’ve got a lot of files, a few old computers, and plenty of chairs for when the truck drivers come in to get their papers sorted. The road outside, Smruti Mandir Road, always has something happening, whether it's carts going by or people heading to the temple nearby. It gets quite warm in Ahmedabad, so the fans are always on full blast. We don't have a professional cleaning crew that comes in every hour; we just keep things tidy ourselves as best we can. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed despite how much work there is. We usually share a big pot of tea in the middle of the afternoon. It’s the kind of place where the door is usually open and you can hear the sounds of the neighborhood. We focus on the daily tasks of moving cement and don't worry much about how the office looks to outsiders. It is just a normal Ahmedabad workplace.
